Wolf &Wool

The soft undercoat of wolves and wolfdogs is shed each spring.  This “blow” is collected from participating owners, rescues, and sanctuaries across the country.  Once collected it is sent to the mill where it is mixed with sheep fleece to make roving and then is spun into yarn.   You will notice the wolf wool as the grey, fluffy yarn in the knitted items.

Many of the bright colored yarns come from the Navajo reservation close to the Grand Canyon.  They are purchased through the Cameron Trading Post in Cameron, AZ

Other yarns used are commercial acrylic yarns.  Accent buttons, antler tips, or stones are chosen specifically for each project

Care and feeding of your felted Wolf&Wool item:

Felted knitting is very durable and quite water resistant.  A light brushing with a bristle clothes brush from time to time will remove surface soil, but eventually most items will need to be washed.  Do not use the machine for washing unless you want more shrinkage.  Instead hand wash the item as you would a fine woolen sweater, block (pull back into shape) and air dry. Remember, Woolite is your Friend!
